Day Nineteen : Wudina to Kimba 101km

Day Nineteen : Wudina to Kimba 101km

Fortunately, the rain had cleared overnight and we woke to a cool, crisp clear morning. The air was so clean and clear, it felt like you could see.

I totally pigged out at breakfast again, five pieces of toast and vegemite, four weetbix and then eggs and bacon on toast. I just can’t stop eating which is probably not surprising.

We only did 101km today which we are now calling a rest day, it’s pretty crazy when you think about it.

Today was a great day of riding with some uphill at the start, then predominantly downhill for the rest of the day with a gentle tail wind. I had a blast on the long stretches of downhill hitting speeds of between 50 and 60km per hour.

We made good time to Kimba arriving at 12.00 noon and gave our bikes a treat by bringing them into the restaurant to have lunch with us. We had our photos taken with the Bundy Bear and another big lunch.

Kimba is the home of the Wakelin brothers, Corey Enright and a barmaid who barracks for the crows…and anyone who is playing Port. Somehow, that sounded rather familiar.

I love these half days where there is no rush and you get time to yourself. I caught up with work and cleaned my bike and sat in the pub and had a drink. It was great to have some time off the bike.

Kimba is a little bit bigger than Wudinna. It has a supermarket and even a chemist. It is also the halfway point across Australia. It was suggested that we should keep going and go coast to coast, which was dismissed pretty quickly, although some members of the trip are flying to Darwin to ride from Darwin to Broome six days after this trip concludes.

We are all counting the days down to the finish line with four days of cycling to go!
