Day Sixteen : Ceduna to Streaky Bay 115km

Day Sixteen : Ceduna to Streaky Bay 115km

We left our beautiful accommodation and stunning scenery at Ceduna, and went on another cold morning with light winds.

I was looking forward to a short ride and the afternoon off in Streaky Bay before we have a rest day.

We started back on the Eyre Highway before turning off onto a quiet country road where we took our time and observed the scenery. We are starting to get into the farming areas in South Australia with farmers preparing to sow if they haven’t already.

The road was very quiet, no more road trains roaring past at least for a couple of days.

We had lots of rolling downhills as we came into Streaky Bay which was fun as we clocked up speeds of 60km an hour, which is a bit of a change to 15km into a howling wind.

Streaky Bay is a sleepy little fishing village with one pub and a couple of café’s and a supermarket.

We arrived in time for lunch and had a magnificent whiting wrap and freshly cooked carrot cake. It was great to have an afternoon off. The long days are exhausting especially when you leave at dawn and get in at sunset, shower have dinner then go to bed and get up in the morning and do it again. Those days are really draining. Fortunately, the really long days are behind us now with all the remaining days being 160km or less.

I spent the afternoon walking on the jetty and around Streaky Bay which doesn’t take too long. There is not much here.

At 5.00 pm, I met with Glen in the local bar to watch the footy and attempted to convert him from rugby to AFL and become a Port supporter. Unfortunately, I could only see the first half as we had to get a briefing and have dinner.

We were all getting really fatigued so it was another early night.
