Day Ten : Coclebiddy to Madura 97km

After 10 hours of sleep, I felt better and looking forward to another half day.

It rained overnight. I think we would have had about 5mm which is a lot out here. It stopped raining about 6.00am which was perfect.

Although the road was wet, and we were getting the spray from the trye in front of us, it was finally an easy day. It was a gradual downhill with a good tail wind behind us. We averaged 30km an hour. It only took 3 hours to ride 100km, the quickest I have ever done it in.

Just before we got to Madura there was a scenic lookout, it was quite spectacular. Looks like a scene from Out of Africa or the Lion King. I could just picture Simba sitting top of the rock at the lookout. We took some photos then had a short ride down a steep decline where a hit 60km then got scared and backed off.

I have forgotten to tell you about Peter, the solo cyclist. Peter is riding his bike from Perth to Sydney and camping overnight…and I thought we were mad!

His bike is packed with full equipment, tent and clothes, GPS tracking and a range of other devices. He is amazing, I couldn’t think of anything worse than riding 200km, then pitching a tent and cooking for yourself in the middle of nowhere.

We rode past him then we stopped for morning tea or lunch and caught up and he joined us for a cup of tea, I took my hat off to him.

Madura is a mirror image of Cocklebiddy, a roadhouse with some accommodation at the back and that’s it. It is owned by the same people as Cocklebiddy who also own Caiguna.

Another big day of 181km into Eucla tomorrow.
