Day Fourteen : Nullarbor to Nundroo 144km

It is pretty crazy when you look at the day sheet and think, “thank goodness it is only 144km today”.

It was a cold start around four degrees as we set off. Our first stop was 20km down the road where we parked the bikes and went to the whale watching centre. We all bundled into the support vehicles and headed off to the Bight.

There weren’t any whales but the scenery was spectacular, reminiscent of the Qantas ad where they sang ‘I still call Australia home’. The whale watching trip took 90 minutes out of the day which meant it was still going to be late getting into Nundroo.

Nundroo is again just a Roadhouse and only just a Roadhouse. I don’t know if it would even show up on any map. To put it mildly, it was the most modest accommodation on the trip, the bathroom window wouldn’t shut, there were cobwebs in the corners of the ceiling and when I went to bed and when I pulled the sheets back to get into bed I got cobwebs all over me. I consequently checked the bed for any creepy crawlies before I got in, but it was a bed and roof over my head and I was grateful for that.

Nundroo was run by a lovely Indian family. They were very friendly and tried their best but I don’t think they have seen so many people at one time before.
